Scientific Background
The CircularB proposal has several aspects closely linked to my ongoing and past work, including: My Horizon 2020 projects, including the past H2020 Marie Curie ITN project ""REDMUD"" and the current H2020 ""ReActiv"" project. In those projects, my team developed new environmental evaluation frameworks and performed circularity and environmental assessment associated with the aluminium and cement industries. More information about these projects is available at https://etn.redmud.org/ and https://reactivproject.eu/ The CircularB Action could benefit from the previous and ongoing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) efforts of my research group, including the novel LCA-NORM framework we developed, to assess naturally occurring radioactivity which can often be found in building materials. Some relevant publications are: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0959652617328044 , and a popular scientific summary is available here: https://researchinestonia.eu/2017/06/28/novel-method-helps-evaluate-ionising-radiation/
Motivation
The work of COST CA21103 CircularB is closely aligned with efforts of my research group during the past several years, including the H2020 Marie Curie ITN project "REDMUD" and the current H2020 "ReActiv" project. In those projects, we developed new environmental evaluation frameworks and performed circularity and environmental assessment associated with the aluminium and cement industries. Furthermore, is directly aligned to the new PhD thesis in our research group on “Dynamic models to assess environmental performance of recycled industrial materials” (PhD student Cansu Özcan, supervisor Alan Tkaczyk).
Contribution
I am keenly interested to contribute to the efforts of WG1 and WG2, and would like to be especially active in WG1's Task 1.9 "Assessing the environmental benefits of different circularity strategies using LCA tools for several scenarios and identifying best practices based on the lowest potential environmental impact."
